I Can Paint a Rainbow

Obviously I would not change my children for the world but if I could make a minor adjustment it would be their sleeping patterns! My oldest is thankfully much better than he used to be, albeit with frequent night-time waking, but Baby leaves a LOT to be desired! She only naps in the pushchair and rouses herself as soon as the wheels cross the threshold of the house. She is also very mischievous so needs lots of activities to keep her out of trouble!

So on such a grey, dismal day, I decided a pop of colour and some messy, sensory play would be the perfect occupation for her cheeky little hands.

We’re very time-poor in our house so I had no spare minutes to stand around boiling up cornflour, plus, I had no cornflour. Instead, I mixed half a cup of gluten-free flour with half a cup of water before separating into four pots and adding food colouring.

It worked an absolute treat and was apparently delicious too (as evidenced by the “lipstick”). It felt gloriously gloopy and was great for scooping up with a paint brush or dipping little fingers into. And the best bit is, the paint is really easy to clean up, as when it dries, you can just brush it away. Also, today, I had the (what I believe to be pure genius) idea of dressing baby in a splash suit under her painting tabbard! Why have I never done this before?

What are your favourite sensory play activities?
